Privacy Policy for Folire

Effective date: September 22, 2026

Folire is a local-first reader for books and documents. Folire does not require an account and has no advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs, or developer-operated server. This policy explains what the app handles when you use its optional local, iCloud, and network-library features.

Your books and reading data

Books you import are copied into Folire's private app storage. Folire also stores extracted publication content, cover images, book details, reading position and history, bookmarks, highlights, notes, collections, ratings, tags, PDF drawings, custom fonts, reading preferences, and saved library sources on your device. This information is used to provide the reader, search, organization, accessibility, statistics, widgets, and backup features you request.

Folire processes publication text and reading-assistant questions on your device. It does not send your books, passages, annotations, or questions to an artificial-intelligence service.

Private iCloud sync

If you enable iCloud library sync, Folire uses your private iCloud storage to synchronize book files, reading position, notes, highlights, bookmarks, collections, book details, presets, settings, and reading history across your devices. Imported book files are uploaded to your private iCloud account and downloaded when you open them on another device. Custom fonts and PDF drawings are not uploaded by library sync. Apple operates iCloud and processes this information under Apple's terms and privacy policy. The Folire developer does not operate a separate sync server.

Network libraries and direct downloads

Folire contacts only the OPDS, Calibre, WebDAV, or direct-download addresses you choose. Those servers receive the information normally required to complete your request, which may include your IP address, requested paths, searches, and any credentials you provide. Saved credentials are kept in the device Keychain and are not included in Folire's library file. The operators of those servers control their own privacy and retention practices.

Access to iCloud Drive and third-party Files providers is handled through Apple's document picker. A provider receives requests only when you choose its files or use its service, subject to that provider's privacy policy.

System features and sharing

Folire uses Apple system features for spoken narration, dictionary lookup, translation, Shortcuts, widgets, and document sharing. When you invoke a system or third-party service, that service may process the content needed to fulfill your request under its own terms. Folire does not activate those destinations automatically.

Annotation exports and complete library backups are created only when you request them. You choose where they are saved or shared. A complete backup can contain book files, covers, fonts, PDF drawings, notes, organization, settings, and reading history, so review the destination before sharing it.

Advertising, tracking, and sale of information

Folire does not show advertising, track you across apps or websites, sell personal information, or provide reading data to data brokers. Folire does not collect analytics or crash reports through a developer-operated service.

Retention and deletion

Local data remains on a device until you remove individual books or delete the app. Removing a book also removes its local annotations, drawings, and reading history. Private iCloud sync data may remain in your iCloud account so Folire can restore it on your other devices or after reinstallation; you can manage Folire's stored iCloud data through your Apple Account's iCloud storage settings.

Children

Folire does not collect personal information from children. The content available through files or network libraries is controlled by the user and the chosen provider.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when Folire's features or data practices change. The effective date above will be updated when we do. For questions or requests, use the Folire Support page. Please do not post copyrighted books, passwords, private server addresses, or unredacted annotations in a public support request.
