Privacy Policy for Trail Tel
Trail Tel is an offline-first outdoor toolkit from Comet Software Development. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the iPhone and Apple Watch apps.
Information stored on your devices
Trail Tel may use and store location readings, recorded routes, waypoints, planned paths, field notes, imported GPX files, saved map areas, gear lists, preferences, sensor readings, and related trip information on your devices. Camera, photo-library, motion, barometer, and notification access is used only for the features you choose to use.
Comet Software Development does not operate an account system or server that receives this information. Trail Tel does not include advertising, third-party analytics, cross-app tracking, or a developer-operated telemetry service.
Location
Location is used to show your position, calculate distance and bearing, save waypoints, estimate daylight information, and record routes. If you allow background location, an active route can continue recording while the app is not on screen. Trail Tel stores these records locally and does not send them to Comet Software Development.
Maps and network services
When you use an online map, your device requests map content from Apple Maps or OpenFreeMap. Those providers receive the network requests needed to deliver map content and apply their own privacy practices. OpenFreeMap describes its practices in its privacy policy. Trail Tel does not add an account identifier, advertising identifier, trip record, waypoint, or field note to those requests.
Map areas that you explicitly save for offline use remain on your device until you remove them or delete the app.
Camera, photos, and sensors
Camera access powers features such as the Moon path view, flashlight, magnifier, QR note sharing, and optional scene-light estimates. Photo-library or document access is used only when you choose to import or export supported content. Motion and pressure sensors power device-level, elevation, and barometer tools. This information is processed on your device and is not sent to Comet Software Development.
Apple Watch
Trail Tel may exchange current trip, waypoint, gear, and pressure information between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple's device communication services. Comet Software Development does not receive that information.
Sharing and exports
When you choose to share a GPX file, field note, QR code, image, or other export, you control its destination through the iOS sharing tools. The privacy practices of the service or person you select apply after you share it.
Purchases
The optional Trail Tel Pro purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment information. The app receives StoreKit product and entitlement information needed to unlock purchased features. Comet Software Development does not receive or store your payment-card details.
Retention and deletion
Local app information remains on your devices until you remove it through an available delete action or delete the app. Saved offline maps can be removed in Trail Tel's local map manager. App Store purchases are managed by Apple and can be restored through the app.
Children
Trail Tel does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has included personal information in a public support request, contact us through the support page so the request can be addressed.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when Trail Tel's practices change. The effective date above will be updated when we do. For privacy questions or requests, use the Trail Tel Support page. Do not include precise locations, private notes, photographs, or other sensitive information in a public support request.
